Meadville's youth media makers have a lot to say, so let's listen. This is the Meadiaville Listening Project.
1950
Meadville, like most of the country, thrived during World War II as most local businesses grew. Major factories during this time included: Talon, Erie Railroad, American Viscose, Channellock Tools, and Dad's Pet Food. Talon was known to employ the county's most industrial employees, with more than 5,000 people out of 9,000 industrial workers. Many small industries in Meadville and around the nation struggled after the war as the nation did not not need as many goods. However, the eight major industries continued to thrive in Meadville during this time, with Talon and Channellock growing significantly as they even became household names. Why did we choose 1950? What was so special about it? Unlike the next few events on the timeline, the 1950's in Meadville were times of incredible economic growth and modernization of the town. The population grew, and there were plenty of jobs to go around. Economic change impacts any town or city, and Meadville was not left out of this change.
