Tear from Grace started as a way for lead guitarist and vocalist Eric Smith to stay involved with music. He had previously been a member of Waiting for Never, an older band that had disintegrated when its members began to have families and leave Meadville. Eric decided to form Tear from Grace with drummer Brandon Kegley, who had also been a member of Waiting for Never. The two later added bassist Matt Lowe to the band. These bandmates want to ensure that they keep playing, expressing that their music gives them a release that they can only get out of music alone. The band currently frequents venues in Erie, where Eric says that the majority of the original music-based bands are interested and driven to play shows.
