 Meadiaville

The Meadiaville Listening Project is imagined and executed by Dr. Emily Yochim and students that partake in her COMM376 course annually. The goal of this project is to tell stories about the entanglements of media and everyday life in Meadville. The project began in 2016, from there, the project took off. Over the course of 14 weeks Dr. Yochim and her students conduct interviews, create a website, produce four podcasts, publish several ethnographic research analyses rooted in communication arts theory, and develop personal relationships with the Meadville community. What started out as a class turned into something very meaningful and gratifying. Dr. Yochim’s work is not finished, we hope you’ll tune in for upcoming seasons! Most importantly, we hope this project gives you a deeper understanding of the Meadville community and all it has to offer.

Season 5

Welcome to Meadiaville Season 5! We created these podcasts during COVID, so all interviews were done remotely and safely. This also means we completed this season’s work under some pretty difficult circumstances. All communication and collaboration was done virtually, from quite a few time zones. We met over Zoom for class and made sure to have lots of communication outside of class. This season we explore recovery and addiction in the Meadville community. We spoke with artists involved with Profiles of Recovery as well as interviewees who are in recovery. We are here to tell the stories we heard, we believe storytelling is incredibly powerful. As you will soon find out, our interviewees are so courageous and inspiring. Lastly, we want to acknowledge and thank Profiles of Recovery for their partnership and inspiration on this project. Please give their website a view. We have worked so hard on this project, and we hope you enjoy listening.
