Bull Moose Marketing

Throughout his his life, CEO of Bull Moose Marketing, Ron Mattocks, has prided himself on helping others. This was instilled in him at a young age when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. With this time serving, he learned the difference between managing and leading and he states, “ Leadership is providing people direction and purpose. And when you can do that for other people and then make them feel like a part of the team that’s huge and very different philosophically from trying to manage them into doing whatever it is they’re supposed to do.”

These qualities are still alive today as he helps businesses around the Meadville area market themselves in a way that will benefit both the business and the community as a whole in the long run.

Mattock’s determination to improve the Meadville community is what Macgregor claims in his book, Habits of the Heartland, to be a logic of commitment. Through this commitment, Mattock’s work philosophy fits perfectly within the structure brought forward by Macgregor because his business is about much more than making money. Rather, Bull Moose’s strategies help to provide “...a set of of larger social and political goals” (42). Mattocks hopes to achieve these goals by working in full circle with local businesses, city leaders, and even on an individual level. Overall, he is very optimistic about the future of Meadville. He states, “while there’s still a lot of work to be done, the future is bright because the people that can make that happen, those champions out there. I think that they can drive Meadville and the area forward to take advantage of those factors that exists.” This optimistic thinking and commitment to creating a brighter future for the Meadville community is what makes Mattocks and his business special in the area.
